We have come full circle in our first year of hugeling and are spending the winter expanding our fleet. We have two more hugels to add to our collection this winter for a total of 6 to make use of next season. See how we build them here.
It should come as no surprise that these gardens work as well are they are reputed to. They essentially recreate all the ideal growing conditions that well-established forests spend decades to centuries perfecting. They also work as in situ composting piles and we have taken to throwing our kitchen scraps and yard trimmings directly on to the piles. We also sprinkle the wood ash from our ovens and the sawdust from our wood shop in to the gardens.
