We love this oil drum. So much so in fact that we are currently collecting supplies to make a second, double barrel smoker. At some point we will haul this beast to the sand blasters so that we can finish it in a spanking new coat of heat refractory paint but for the time being we are enjoying it’s trailer park chique appeal. It cooks like a hot chipotle too.
The time consuming part of this project was gathering supplies. Once that was settled, the actual assembly was completed within a day. You can absolutely build an oil drum smoker without ever going near a welder. An angle grinder, drill, and collection of bolt/nut/washer assemblies will work just fine too. Commercially available smoke stacks are also available for purchase.
